Zubereitung
- Preheat the oven (180°C).
- Cut the chocolate into large pieces with a knife.
- Sieve the flour into a bowl, add the sugar and yeast.
- Cut the butter into cubes and work into the dough with your fingertips.
- Cut open the vanilla pod and scrape out the vanilla pulp with the back of a knife.
- Make a well in the bowl, whisk 1 egg with the milk in the center, add the vanilla pulp and work the dough quickly.
- Add the chocolate chips.
- Flour the work surface and roll out the dough to a thickness of about 2 cm.
- Use a circular cookie cutter to cut out circles with a diameter of 5-6 cm.
- Place on a baking tray lined with baking paper and brush with a beaten egg using a brush.
- Bake in a fan oven for approx. 18 minutes.

Traditionally, scones are eaten warm with butter, jam or honey, or with clotted cream (cream double). Fun fact: In England in particular, there is a tradition of spreading the scone first with jam and then with clotted cream. This leads to an ongoing debate about the correct way to eat a scone...
